LOCK DOWN – DAY 34

Today we discovered a fabulous new walk. …....Actually, that's a complete lie. We didn't discover this walk at all. We read Flumgummery's Blip yesterday about seeing a Heron at Elf Loch (which we'd never heard of before) so thought we'd go and investigate where she'd been. She'd been for a walk on Mortonhall Golf Course.

Scotland is slightly different from England in that one has the 'right to roam'. Until lock down Ann had never, ever thought of taking me for a walk on a golf course before. There's the 'secret path' which is no longer secret that runs between the Mortonhall Golf Course & the Buckstone housing estate that we often walk on, but we'd never walked on the golf course. Until today.

What a lovely place for a walk. Ann kept me on my lead because there were signs up saying that the greenkeepers were spraying the greens with chemicals. Hmmmmm............. we think that was a bit of a lie because we didn't see anyone spraying anything. However, there was a very nice greenkeeper driving around on his quad bike telling everyone to have a nice walk, but also asking people with dogs to keep them on their leads I was already on my lead because Ann is a very responsible dog owner and to keep off the greens & out of the bunkers. To be honest we think that is fair enough.

There's been loads of reports on FB and other social media sites complaining of mountain bikers zooming around all over golf courses and churning up the grass.

Ann made me pose by 'Elf Loch' for my Blip. (If you're reading this Blip on a laptop you can probably see the Heron in the loch behind me.) And then we spotted this sign (see extras) about people who had been using the golf course as a public park and coming there for picnics with their families and bringing buckets & spades to dig in the bunkers. Ann initially thought.................. what a load of rubbish. But then unfortunately we did see two families that were were sitting in the bunkers with little people who were digging with buckets & spades?????????????

Anyway we walked right to the end of the golf course and then we walked over the 'Braid Hills Golf Course' and down onto the grassy area between the Braid Hills Golf Course and the Hermitage where I was allowed off my lead to run and run and run.

We're both a bit tired now but thank you Flumgummery for introducing us to such a lovely new walk.
