Stroppy pants

There's been quite a lot of stroppy from Katie today. She did have a brilliant first lesson with her new piano teacher. He's stepped in to help pick up the pieces after something of a collapse with the previous one which her music director decided needed to be fixed immediately. It was quite odd having this lesson in the knowledge its realistically quite possible she may not meet Adam in person ever. Its all very up in the air with her music school. She had a bit of a break so got to see some of church before her performance class. It's a new thing that they have started after deciding attempts at ensemble groups were not working. Katie was first to perform in the workshop and it was a good class overall. During her break we managed to zoom a few church friends as she'd been upset that her changed timetable meant she couldn't do the normal coffee zoom.

After her break, it was her first composition class. This did not go well. The teachers connection dropped completely so I had to step in and instruct the kids on what they should do while they were unsupervised as well as trying to coordinate with the teacher and director to make sure there was still a class online when he got back! The lesson was then a bit garbage and Katie ended up feeling quite confused. She then had a massive "all zoomed out" meltdown at lunchtime. A big big meltdown. To her credit, she pulled herself together just in time for dalcroze. Odie bunny really helped with that; she seemed to know that Katie needed her. When I had sent Katie to take her foul mood outside, Katie had taken a book. Odie came and lay with Katie, snuggling right up to her. They learnt together how Katie can pick up odie too, which really did delight Katie.

Katie had a very positive improvisation class. Her teacher was really pleased with what she's done on her jazz piano work. He gave them it just as a project but has suggested that Katie should consider doing some jazz grades.

She had another garden grump after but this time discovered that kicking and hitting drying bathsheets is quite therapeutic. Bedtime was a bit of a disaster. She absolutely refused to sleep in her room. I very often choose to let her cosleep but she doesn't sleep so well when we do. Nor do I. We were both exhausted and I thought it better to hold out for some proper sleep. Eventually she declared "fine, ill sleep in my room but I won't sleep in my bed". And she didn't. Made a bed on her floor and with much grumping she went to sleep. I don't know, retrospectively, if just putting her in my bed would probably have been better but the location of her sleep is a challenging matter in our house at times. But then everything is challenging at the moment....
