beautiful silk tree.
Albizia julibrissin var. rosea - Silk tree
This tree is named for its silky long fragrant stamens, pink to dark red flower heads in January. Fine fern-like leaves on graceful stalks appear later than many deciduous trees and give Albizia a tropical look.
Quick growing, it has an arching horizontal branching habit creating a flat topped crown at 4-6 metres.
Ideal as a shade tree around patios, decks and close to houses. Leaflets fall in autumn, soon disintegrating with little mess to sweep up. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, heat and dry conditions.
Will grow as far south as Christchurch, but not in the coldest parts of New Zealand.
We have these gorgeous trees growing lining our street. they look spectacular at present, and many different shades from pink through to orange and red.
