Flood Update
This is our beautiful Main Beach (which I have blipped many times) now covered with about 1- 2 mtrs depth of flood debris, mainly logs, washed downstream in the Clarence River and then out into the open Ocean to be dumped on our beautfiul beaches. Main Beach isn't the only one like this, Convent Beach is the same or even maybe worse, Pippi not quite as bad etc etc. I've never seen this before and I'm not sure how it will all be removed - it will take a huge effort. The white stuff is sea foam which is everwhere.
We woke to sunsine this morning, no more belting rain and wind, but the news that upstream Grafton was about to experience the highest flood since 1890. It all happenned very quickly and I think the actual height took the SES and Police by suprise. The last highest recorded was 6.9 mtrs, this one peaked at 8.1 mtrs and the velocity of the water was the highest ever recorded.
Also it means that all that water is coming downstream towards us and is expected to hit Maclean tonight at midnight and they are worried that it will go over the levee wall there. Some time after that it will arrive down here, most probably coinciding with a king tide, but because we are on the ocean hopefully it will just rush out to sea and not cause too much flooding here but who knows, fingers crossed.
Flooding all up and down the East Coast of Qld and NSW at the moment - some people have only just rebuilt from the disaster of ther 2011 floods and are experiencing it all over again - I just can't imagine how they are coping, but amazingly, coping they are.
