The Mayfair Cinema on Brick Lane, built on the site of the old Palace Music Hall, opened to great acclaim in 1936.
It fell out of favour and closed in 1967.

Reopened soon after, now renamed the Naz, the cinema specialised in showing Bollywood films, delighting the local Bengali community until the mid 1980’s.
