Serendipity

I was clearing out the back of the garage this afternoon when I came across this dead  Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly. How it came to be there I can only guess. It must have flown in while the garage was open and got stuck in there when the door was closed. It seems in fairly good shape but I would be surprised if it is this season's crop as its has not yet been hot enough for butterflies this year.  Fortunately for me it had died with its wings akimbo so I have been easily able to photograph it. The main blip was taken with my macro lens but I thought it would be interesting to see more detail so I also photographed its wing detail under my digital microscope. (see extra)
