Common Spotted-Orchid
STOP PRESS - I just had some late visitors to my garden in the Extra - 2 leverets nibbling grass in the sunshine while waiting for their mother. They often pass through the garden but usually at dusk when I have no chance of taking a photo.
The previous owners of our house had a dog, which we suspect kept the deer out of the garden. The first summer we were here, the bank was covered in Common Spotted-Orchids, with their spires of pink and purple flowers, but we have seen very few since.
We put an electric fence round the bank in the early Spring to protect the orchids if they might have been grazed by the deer, and there are lots of spotty orchid leaves appearing. So we have our fingers crossed for a show of orchids that I hope to blip in June.
