Our "Walking club" chose to breathe our fresh air in the Midland forest which is some twenty kilometers from where I live. It's called Midland forest because it's in the middle of the island more or less. All names here are very concrete and down to earth. It was a beautiful eight kilometers walk that started by the second biggest of about twenty fortresses on the island. They all date from around 300 to 600 AD. when this county was run by families or clans with a chief in charge. They often fought each other about wealth, power and influence over trade and the best pieces of land (have we heard about it before).
We were eighteen people in the group this time, last time we were three, so we never know how many wants to come. Today welcomed us with a slight drizzle but no wind and quite warm and it was a very nice walk through the sheltered forest, mostly consisting of beech, ash, birch and a lot of hazel. Even some pine trees in between. There's also lots of marshes and wetlands and we had our coffee brake in a deserted village where you barely could guess where the houses had been.
This little pond was close to the resting place and it had the most beautiful white flowers, looking just like white anemones growing in a ring, looking quite magic.
