Still Expecting
We visited the pond to see if any ducklings had hatched, and it appears she is still nesting. After a swim (and fly) up and down the pond, the two mallards returned to their designated spots; she a few feet beyond the water in what appeared to be a bunch of leaves, and he directly between her and the water’s edge. If not for his green head they perfectly blended with their surroundings. The eggs need to incubate for about 20 days and will then all hatch within 24 hours. We’ll check in on them again soon.
