Pollok bluebells

I discovered these bluebells yesterday evening but had no camera with me. I think they are early this year, I have childhood memories of swathes of colour in Arran which would have 4 weeks later – Whitsuntide. Some of the rhododendrons where out too and there was a single outbreak of what looked to me like yellow Californian poppies. I had planned to return in the morning, as early as possible and I did, probably around 8 ish maybe a bit before. It was a glorious morning and already the park was relatively busy. A that time of day and when the weather is bad I follow the river path which is my favourite, the bluebell wood, or at least this one is at the top of a small track off the private route to the Highland cows.

On my return I chatted with a fellow kingfisher watcher and we watched as the pair flew in and out several times, perhaps feeding a brood. Until now I thought it completely unrealistic to try to get a photo, I think it might be in my grasp – today one was prone to perching on a tree trunk and had he/she stayed there just another 20 seconds I could conceivably have taken a shot.
