Praying…
…………………..…Mantis
Of the South African variety - first discovered in Auckland, NZ in 1978.
This particular one was found lurking on a swan plant in my garden!
- A mantis gets its name for its front legs, which when bent and held together it looks as though it is praying.
- They can turn their heads 180 degrees and have two large eyes plus three smaller eyes located between.
- The South African variety of mantis is either green or brown in colour which makes it easy to camouflage on plants.
- Female mantis generally have 6 abdominal segments and males 8.
Thank you for the comments, stars and hearts for last night’s twisted and dried peony leaf - a leftover from summer glory.
