Nesting swans
Notwithstanding that Pollok Park and its kingfishers is my favourite, today I ventured to Queens Park via Maxwell Park and Pollokshields and very rewarding it was too. The blip is of the swan nest on the island in the smaller of the two ponds. Conversation with a chap who knows about these things indicated that the cygnets have probably hatched and are likely to be seen out and about in the next few days. The tree trunk is mostly in the way and there was no other obviously better location to get a shot, you can, just, see the well made and precise nest which has been used before and almost certainly by this pair. I also learnt that there is a market amongst some eastern European communities for poaching the ducklings to eat. And on one occasion 3 years ago they successfully made off with a Russian duck/goose that had been resident in the park after it was blown off course in a wild storm. It would have been quite tough I would have thought.
Gorgeous yellow sandstone architecture in the area of Regent’s Square and Queens Square and I intend to return to take some photos. Niall Murphy @twitter has excellent tips for standout examples of architecture and the their stories. Much still to explore during the next stage of lockdown including The Hidden Gardens, and Glasgow Gurdwara. And of course a regular visit to monitor the progress of the cygnets.
