Fruit of Friendship.
Another gloriously sunny day to spend in the garden . Tried to get a move on with the jobs because we are expecting a big meteorological change from tomorrow.
As I was pottering in the front garden a couple of weeks ago a neighbour, who I have occasionally chatted to over the years walked by. I’ve always thought we could be friends but neither of us seemed able to make the first move . Strangely, the corona virus lockdown has made people more willing to stop awhile and chat . The outcome of our conversation was that we are, as I thought, on the same page about many things . In the course of our conversation we discovered that we both like reading long winded , highly descriptive , books that are both stories and informative . In our conversation we travelled through many topics and ended by lending each other a book apiece and agreed that it would be good to meet up again over the hedge. Some days later she dropped off some tomato plants which was much appreciated as my seeds have only just germinated . So , for me , the tomato plants are symbolic of a new friendship which has only arisen because the desire for human contact has lowered the barriers . What strange folks we are , designed to be social creatures but so defended against the possibility of rejection . The university of life keeps throwing up new opportunities for growth, what an adventure !
Anyway, today the tomato plants were transferred to their outdoors home and I’m hopeful, that for once I will have the time to care for them and get a tasty harvest . Fingers crossed that it’s not too cold tonight as temps are due to plummet .
