Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Friday — RJ & the Flowers

We were on the 134 freeway cruising thru Pasadena this morning about 9:30 when my phone started sounding that a “FaceTime” call was coming in from our oldest grandchild Ashly. She is the mom of our youngest great-grandchild, little RJ.

The Mother’s Day Bouquet that I had ordered for her had just been delivered to Ashly’s front door.

I asked the florist to put together 1dozen red carnations and 1 stargazer lily, and then the message on the card “Happy Mother’s Day” ... “You are One of a Kind.”

Ashly has been such a good mommy to little RJ. She is a teacher of high school students who are severely retarded and during this “sheltering-at-home” season that we are all in, the school she teaches at has closed until next school term, which begins in August. So Ashly has been home with RJ every day. Watching her keep him busy and learning has been very interesting and very rewarding. I’ve been quite pleased with her energy and ability to “play” all day long with him and to help him learn new skills.

So I wanted to honor her on her very first Mother’s Day.

We are now at home in our little retirement house on California’s Central Coast and so very glad to be here. We last left here on April 2, which was about 2 weeks into the “sheltering-at-home” requested by our California governor. We had done a thorough job of using most of the food in the pantry and freezer, so we headed for our place in SoCal and to several appointments — one was for a prostate biopsy and then 2 weeks later we learned that Mr.Fun does have prostate cancer. So the next couple of months will include quite a bit of involvement with medical procedures. At the moment we have a window of time that does not include any medical appointments or procedures, so we made a quick getaway.

That’s our Friday story!
Good Night from Cayucos
