Blackbird (Turdus merula)
This is going to be a strange thing to say, as lockdown for many doesn't have a bright side at all, but this shot covers what for me is one of the joys of lockdown. From before dawn until almost dark this male "Blackie" seems to have nothing to do but sit up near the top of our Silver Birch and sing.
The good weather has meant that we have been spending a lot of time working in the garden or just sitting enjoying a cuppa. The constant sound track of him song posting, letting everybody know this is territory, has been glorious.
I am concerned by the direction the government is taking us, the Lake District is likely to be flooded by people driving "any distance" for exercise or just to picnic. Couple that with the idea some primary school children are going to be back in school by 1st June. Anyone who thinks that is possible with social distancing doesn't know schools or children.
