Looking Back at our Mount St. Helens Experience

My granddaughter called me today to ask about our experience with the eruption of Mount St. Helens, May 18, 1980, as she wants to write an essay on it for her school assignment. She is in 5th grade.
When the volcano erupted, my husband, our 10 month old daughter, and I had just moved to Washington state not far from the volcano.
I got out our photo albums and shared photos with our daughter and granddaughter. For many months after the eruption, a Red Zone was created where no one could pass. This photo is of us encountering the Red Zone in Feb 1981.
The extra photos are of us revisiting the area when the Red Zone was lifted, July 1982, and again in June 1995.
