Nut Weevil
I enjoyed a gentle walk along the bridleway past Vergette's Wood and then back along the Maxey Cut.The Cuckoo was calling in the distance, and the hedges were heaving with insects, including many freshly emerged Common Blue damselflies and a single Hairy Dragonfly. There was also a Nut Weevil on the Wild Pear - one of my favourite insects with such impossibly long noses! The most interesting plant was Yellow-juiced Poppy, growing on the north-bank of the Maxey Cut, quite close to the road. As I got back to the car I noticed a rather stunning 22 degree -halo round the sun, caused by ice crystals high up in the atmosphere.
