Prince Albert in Windsor Great Park

Day 64 - We went to Windsor taking bike in the car. Cycled around Windsor Great Park...have never seen it so busy...families, cyclists, runners and interestingly more cars than usual although it’s not open to the public.....presumably people who live there who are not at work? Some of the roads were closed to cyclists today. The imposing equestrian statue is of Prince Albert in military uniform, it overlooks Smiths Lawn which is the Guards Club polo ground. It was erected in 1887 and presented to Queen Victoria. On all four sides of the plinth are bronze plaques with inscriptions saying that the statue was presented from “the daughters of Her Empire”. One inscription is in English the others are in Gaelic, Latin and Sanskrit.
