General Sir John Lambert

Day 65- explored parts of Thames Ditton and Surbiton. Blue plaque for a general Sir John Lambert(1772-1847) at Elm House, Weston Green, near the Scilly Isles roundabout. He was involved in the French revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars being best known for commanding the 10th brigade during the battle of Waterloo. The house looks like it needs tlc. Lots of traffic going past and always interesting to reflect that when the house was built there were no motor vehicles and no tarmac roads! Cycled back via Kingston which is rather a ghost town, much less busy than the high streets of Teddington and Twickenham. There are a few stalls in the market place. Main Street has lots of empty shops, some had closed before lockdown. All the riverside eateries looking sad. The work to build a new cinema in the Bentall Centre is still proceeding..very optimistic! I did notice that Kingston has planted up their hanging baskets over the bridge which is nice.

- painted some pots grey for the garden
- bought some canes for tomatoes...disappointed to see lots of people definitely not 2m apart on the High street.
- daughter and family came last on their bike ride am and we went over to their house pm to take some things and stayed in the garden,they were in the house.
