Deceptively calm

The Atlantic blasts continued today but it was necessary to head into our county town - Ayr. The combination of high tide and strong, gusting winds made for dramatic scenes along the esplanade as waves crashed over the parapets. Attempts to blip the drama were thwarted by salty sea spray and limited shutter and exposure control on the compact IXUS. Could really have used a proper tripod as well and will need practice and advice about how best to capture these shots. Eventually retreated to the car to thaw out and recover from the battering.

Time permitted an excursion to Dunure, a few miles down the coast. It was more sheltered and tranquil here, although the sea still frothed angrily. Dunure always seems pretty and is usually crowded with visitors on nice weekends. But the only life visible this afternoon were a man walking his dog and the gulls circling overhead.
