Streletzia on Steroids

We have been trying to organize various backyard events for several weeks now but it seems to have gotten cold and miserable every weekend....as if it made any difference to us but, Jim and Dana are both working from home more or less full time.

The stars seem to have aligned well with Jim’s birthday today. Our plans have morphed from drinks at a distance to pulled pork and coleslaw at two well separated tables in the back yard. Only I just remembered that Peter is using our folding table for a desk....

With all the mental energy going into parsing and interpreting the directives coming at us from all sides, I don’t seem to have the mental energy left to make the most elementary decisions

We thought we would just order a pizza and a salad but this ubiquitous dish, which can always be ordered and delivered anywhere, is not so easily acquired during Covid times. The local restaurant which has been supplying us with ‘heat and eat’ meals twice a week, does indeed have pizza, but they aren’t open on Saturday. Our favorite hangout on the other side of town does pizza for take out but the delivery service they use doesn’t come as far out as where we live.

John has been dying to make pulled pork in the slow cooker and that was on the menu long enough for him to acquire a pork shoulder. I decided the making and serving of it might be more complicated than I could get my head around but at this point it is seeming like the easiest thing to do.

With all the mental energy going into parsing and interpreting the directives coming at us from all sides, I don’t seem to have the mental energy left to make the simplest of decisions...

But this is our family after all. We’re going to have to start socializing soon before we turn into maladjusted hermits, and I can’t think of a better place to begin than with our own children and grandchildren and a perfect evening for eating outside.
....and a jar full of plastic spoons, paper plates and napkins, plastic glasses and a centerpiece of Clorox wipes and Purell hand sanitizer..

The streletzia hedge along the back of the house and the lava trees and roses on the hill behind us will provide lovely floral arrangements.
