LOCK DOWN – DAY 62
Another mammoth walk. 13.6 miles today. We walked all the way to the 'Royal Burgess Golf Course' and all the way back. This was the last of the Edinburgh golf courses that we had to visit for our 'walking on golf courses challenge'.
There's not many advantages to being in lock down but we've both really enjoyed being able to walk on the 18 Edinburgh golf courses that have been closed for the last couple of months. Unfortunately for us (but fortunately for the golfers) they're re-opening at the end of the week. However, without Coronavirus we would never have been able to experience such lovely walks. It's been really fabulous to have such large open spaces for me to have a run about on, especially as most of the normal dog walking places are still full of cyclists, joggers and little people learning to ride their bikes. We walked around the whole of the golf course and only saw four other people, though there were a few squirrels that needed chasing.
What was a bit annoying today was...................... to get to the 'Royal Burgess' most of the walk involved walking along the cycle path. The cycle path isn't actually just a cycle path. It's a shared walkway and as such Ann always keeps me on my lead so that I don't run in front of the cyclists and make them tipple topple off their bikes. It's just a pity that the majority of cyclists do not show the same consideration to walkers. What is it with cyclists that make them think that they can whiz past walkers without any warning. They may know that they're just about to whiz past a walker, but if they're behind us we don't know that. And as for social distancing they don't seem to have a clue what 2m is! Grrrrrrrrr..................
Obviously not every single cyclist was this inconsiderate. The considerate ones rang their bell when they were about to over-take us. Or if they didn't have a bell they yelled out, 'Passing on the right'. Surely there should be some sort of 'bike etiquette' that cyclists should adhere to when sharing a path with other users? Oh and just so that all you inconsiderate bike users know.................. my human googled, 'how much is a bicycle bell', and the cheapest she found was 70p. 70p?! I bet most of these inconsiderate cyclists that zoomed past us, spent at least a few hundred pounds, if not thousands, on their super duper bikes. And yet they won't even spend 70p on a bike bell?! OK rant over!
Soooooo...................... that's the 'walking on golf courses' challenge finished. Has anyone got any ideas as to what our challenge in June can be???
