Sad Day

I checked on the dove’s nest in our garden as I do every morning and it was empty! There were no pieces of eggshell in the nest or on the ground, and all I could find were these few feathers on the ground beneath the nest. The mournful sound of a dove cooing could be heard in the background. These are the clues - what could have happened to our dove family in the night?
