A bookish walk

Felt I needed to get out as soon as I’d had my Saturday treat of Guardian and croissants brought by our good fairy. I headed over the hill to the next village with a backpack of books to return to a friend. We sat in her garden at a distance while she had a coffee and I drank from my water bottle - I’m not yet in the zone of accepting drinks though a coffee was offered. We had a good book chat and a virus chat.

Not good news - her hospital doctor SIL says he and others in his hospital who have had the virus have had the antibody test and it has come back in all cases negative, meaning any immunity only lasts a few weeks. Not good news for a vaccine.

Fellow Blipper Arclight sent me a link to the William Dalrymple (met him at the Pakistan High Commission a couple of years ago) talk at the Hay Book Festival. He spoke about his book “Anarchy”, which Mr C and I have read, about the East India Company and its horrendous history, followed by the British Government’s pillaging of India. The Q&A session was a powerful plea that we should be aware of our awful colonial history, starting with schools teaching it. Tell the to our current government - Gove wants kids to be taught about the “glory” of the British Empire.

Don’t they say we get more conservative as we get older? No, if we get older and wiser how could that ever happen?
