Wangari Maathai
First African woman to win the Nobel Prize
Despite intolerance of her race and gender, she persisted in her goal of establishing the Green Belt Movement.
This was painted by me this morning on a postcard size canvas format and in time to be mailed to my grand-daughter today as part of her Friday art lesson with me. The project title was Mother/Mother Nature and the gd and her 2 pals could interpret that anyway they wished.
You can read about this cool woman here

And if you want a gift suggestion for a child, the book about her by Franck Prevot and illustrated by Aurelia Fronty would be a good choice. It’s called
Wangari Maathai, the Woman who planted millions of Trees.
My little painting is taken from the bookcover
