Fledgling
My neighbour was telling me of his time growing up, always finding that 1 crow fledged from a clutch leaving the nest would be in poorer shape than their siblings and not survive. One year he and his pals built a pen for such a soul, to keep it safe from predation and enable the parents to keep feeding it, alas it didn't survive. Sam did a wee intervention with this cute baby crow who was failing in the weekend heat in baking sun and not flying, popping it in a cooler tree branch. We hoped it would make it. The next day i heard a fledgling crow in the same tree squawking raucously for food from the parents, fingers crossed it was this wee one and they made it to being a fully fledged, cheeky, clever corvid.
