Industrial Donside
We’d a walk along the River Don this morning walking a route from St Machars Cathedral to Presley Bridge. This is a area with a rich industrial heritage. The blip is some machinery from the old Woodside Cotton mill, whilst our walk also took us past the site of the old Grandholm Mill which in the 18thC was the largest linen mill inthe country and was taken over by Crombie textiles in the 19thC. It closed in 1990 and the mill demolished for housing. In more recent times there were paper mills along the river - these have also now all gone, markedly improving the quality of the river water. The whole area is a haven for wildlife and we spotted a seal 3 miles upstream from the mouth of the Don. He looked quite happy.
