Sea forts
Another one from our trip to Whitstable last year at the beginning of June. We took a trip out on a rib boat to the sea forts and wind farm off the coast. The sea forts guarded the approach to the Thames estuary in the Second World War. They look a bit like the Martian tripod invaders from The War of the Worlds. There were a number of these located in coastal waters, a modern equivalent in their time to the Martello Towers erected as a defensive line along the south coast during the Napoleonic Wars.
