Grey day?

Today has had its ups and downs.
The ups are that I have almost finished the pinafore dress I started before the hot weather sent me to the garden.
The overnight rain has perked up all my plants and they look much more ready to grow this morning.
My lovely neighbour dropped me off some veg plants which I'm hoping to plant out tomorrow into a new, no-dig plot in the fruit cage for protection from feasting mammals and birds! We had a lovely chat albeit out in the lane, social distancing in the slighty damp atmosphere, although not raining as such which was a bonus!
There was really only one down, but it overshadowed the good of the day. I spoke to my best friend's husband from Weymouth. She has been suffering from  Alzheimer's for the last 4 years. She had been slowly deteriorating and it was difficult when I moved from Weymouth saying goodbye knowing she would probably never recognise me again. She went into a home at the beginning of the year and it has been a traumatic time for both her and her husband and family. Of course they haven't been able to visit now for 12 weeks and even at that time her grandson, always the idol of her life, was devastated that the last time he visited she had no idea who he was. Her husband feels that will be the same when he is next allowed to visit. He has been speaking to her on the phone but she doesn't have the power of speech to talk back anymore. He sings to her over the phone and apparently the nurses say that makes her smile. Also since he saw her last she cannot now walk unaided. There are of course a whole host of other nasties which don't need recording. It was a difficult conversation. I love her dearly and hope that I may be able to make at least one last visit when we are free to give her one more hug.
