Empty Rooms

A classic Gary Moore track gives us today’s title. My regular 5K run takes me past this place, which has been unable to be used for its intended purpose of recreation and exercise, since 20th March. It is, to all intents and purposes at this time, just a load of empty rooms awaiting the day when gyms and leisure centres might be allowed to reopen.
Very early in the lockdown process though, the army descended on the place and converted the main hall into an overflow hospital ward, intended for use by recovering Covid patients well enough to leave hospital but not yet well enough to return home. The white plastic tents you can see on the left of the picture are presumably where patients and staff could enter directly to the space.
I say “could” because, thankfully, the facility has not needed to be used. It is a hospital ward, but an empty one.
In spite of falling numbers of coronavirus cases, the NHS has asked that the facility remains in place for the time being. Presumably they are keeping it in reserve in case the threatened second spike occurs.
I look forward to the day when I can run past and see it open to the public again - not least because that will mean the gym I use will also have reopened!!
