A view from Jeanneb

A bit of a wander

with a view.

A couple of weeks ago we got talking to a lady in St Ives who had been dropped off by her husband who was off to play golf. She’d walked round the estate and was asking for the best way to walk back to Bingley. She also said she’d just discoversed you could walk up onto the crags above Bingley from the Bridleway off Park Road. It rang a bell as for reasons I don’t remember I did once walk up there with Grace. (She did have a boyfriend who lived in that area at the time.)

Today we went to have an explore. We parked at the Prince of Wales Park and made our way up on to what the maps call Gilstead Moor edge or crags and even with the dull weather today the views were great. It lies between the town and the villages of Eldwick and Gilstead. (Warning for local walkers it’s a bit of a DS alley!)

Looking over the town of Bingley and the Aire Valley with our village in the centre distance. Our house is in the middle of the buildings above the trees. To the right you can see the St Ives Estate with the bald patch that is Betty’s Wood. To the left is the tip of the plantation trees that is Cottingley Woods.

We really enjoyed studying the town and surroundings picking out places we know. We’ll be going back on a clearer day.

Returning via a steep snicket to Villa Road I had a strong feeling that it was the path we used to take to my granddad’s allotment. All built on now of course.

We returned to The Prince Of Wales park and had a pleasant wander around there too though it is very up and down.

It brightened a bit when we got back and I foolishly put some washing out. It has gone from sun to heavy showers all afternoon. As I started with the washing I heard a noise in the branches above me and saw a young tit being fed. Had to go in for my camera but caught a couple of snaps.

We put the clothes line down when our friend came for garden coffee on Tuesday and it wouldn’t go back up. Chris managed it but in doing so it broke. We knew it wanted replacing but that’s the second thing that’s bust this week! Not great when the normal outlets for shopping are less accessible.

Everything is getting old like us!

Stay safe everyone
