Rain and sun

A wild and weird day weather wise, with rain, thunder, strong winds and sun. I had a lovely House Party meet with two of my sisters this morning and watched The Secret Life of Pets on Blu Ray with afternoon.

Thousands of people have attended anti racism demonstrations across the UK, despite this breaching Government instructions for preventing the spread of the virus, particularly given the R rate being close to 1 in some areas. It was good to see masks being worn however.

Day 83 / Day 75 of Lockdown / Day 6 of Step 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 204 to 40,465 and globally deaths pass 400,000. No daily briefing today for the first time since 16th Mar I think. Evidently weekend briefings are cancelled as viewing figures are lower at the weekend (no doubt in part as junior ministers do the briefing with little new to announce), but no bad thing I think. Interesting to read on Sky News that government scientists are muttering under cover of anonymity about the reliability of some CV data including regional R no's issued yesterday some of which were 1, issued on the day no scientific advisor attended the daily briefing.

The WHO has thankfully changed it's advice on the wearing of face masks, now saying they should be worn in public where social distancing is not possible to stop the spread of the virus. Those over 60 with underlying health risks should wear medical masks in areas where there is community transmission. To me this is just common sense given it's passed via respiratory droplets and those infected can be pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic. It's been reported that up to a third of companies getting the Govt CCFF loans have links to tax havens. Intu is reporting to be lining up administrators in case needed.
