U Can’t Touch This

.....but if you must, don’t forget to wash your hands or use sanitiser immediately!
Hard to believe it was only four months ago that we were being told this virus could be defeated by simply washing our hands or using sanitiser. Whilst that is important it isn’t the whole story, as we rapidly found out. Of course, as soon as it was announced, the panic buying started and within a very short time there wasn’t any sanitiser - or liquid soap - to be found.
We were fortunate in that we had always kept some in each car in case we needed to change a wheel or poke around under the bonnet and then have to clean our hands.
That’s right - it was purely a cleanser and sold as such. The Asda ones in the photo are even called “Dry Wash”
In addition, I always kept one in my guitar case and Mrs C had been advised to take plenty with her on a holiday to India a couple of years back. She bought some in Germany and they were obviously ahead of the game as theirs is labelled quite specifically as “Hygiene Handgel”
Whatever the source, a quick round up revealed we had plenty to keep us going until such time as it was available again in the shops.
We soon fell into the routine of carrying it with us everywhere and using it as needed - before and after shopping, if we touched any gates or stiles whilst out exercising, etc. It is not quite an instinctive act though and we did find ourselves in a supermarket the other day and realised the gel had been left behind. But, four months down the line, there is now plenty on the shelves so we just bought a new one! Interestingly it’s now firmly labelled as a disinfecting sanitiser rather than just a cleanser.
So, we’re not going to run out any time soon and I’d like to think that whatever happens with this particular virus, we all continue to practise good hygiene to help prevent future pandemics.
