A view to promote recovery
This morning I took S to the Mater, to have a knee replacement. Actually a unicompartmental procedure. The lateral half of her knee is in sound condition, and we are hoping this will restore essentially normal full function. Operation done under spinal anaesthesia, and I do think she is recovering more quickly as a result.
There were presentations at the conference I attended in 2018 in Iceland, suggesting that having a room with a window facing the equator shortens hospital stay for lots of conditions, including orthopaedic surgery. This is the view from her window; the big square building (with an adjacent chimney) is the old main block of Auckland Hospital, and that is close to due north from The Mater.
The extra is another photo of a Tui in a tree not far from a heavily used birdfeeder. Taken as I neared the end of a jog which i squeezed in before a meal of leftovers, and then back to have another visit. S continues to do more than the nurses expected her to be able to do on the day of the operation.
