Thank You For the Days ..

Exploring the County

After singing this morning, we looked at the clouds and decided that it wasn't really a day for the garden. We needed a few things like compost and tomato food, so off we went to the garden centre in Kelso.

It was quiet, luckily, It's not easy steering their wonky trolleys with three large bags of compost in, and avoiding fellow shoppers.

Home via the back roads - we don't get out much, literally.

We stopped for a walk at  Makerstoun, a tiny village, with a very dinky little little church. The former manse nearby is bigger than the kirk. The burial ground is rather lovely ( the extras).

As we were leaving a car came down the road and stopped, and the driver, a lady of about our age, but several rungs higher up the social ladder, engaged us in conversation. I'm not sure whether she was just in need of a chat, or checking us out .... She informed us that her husband is buried there, with his favourite views of the hills on one side and his woods where he used to go shooting on the other.  She also put me right on the way to pronounce the name of the place - emphasis on the middle syllable. I thought it was on the first, which would mean "poet's farm'. Her way suggests it belongs to the Kers, big landowners round here,  so she's probably right.
