A Material World
Yes, that's my world! Sorry it's another fabric Blip ;-[]
When I'm surrounded by fabrics I am probably at my happiest (well apart from being surrounded by grand children!). There are so many awful things happening in the world just now and this is my escape.
I've nearly finished cutting all the squares, then I'm going to put them in a bag and take them to the boat next week, along with my sewing machine and I can sew them there at my leisure.
I have come to know the names of many fabric designers over the years and have my favourites.
Rose and Hubble is a well known brand with their traditional pretty designs and lovely quality but there are others like Michael Miller, Alexander Henry, Robert Kaufman, Windham Fabrics, Riley Blake, too many too mention, who do more contemporary and quirky designs as well as vintagey florals.
Sue said I should put Music for Pets on Alexa for Bella. She snoozes most of the day anyway but she's lying there not asleep but chilling. It is lovely music and I think for any pets of an anxious nature it would be beneficial.
There are all kinds of things filling my head just now, what with Covid and the government's handling of it, the lies we are being told every day, the fact that some of the scientists who were providing the info and advice for the daily Corona Virus updates have been given the push because they weren't towing the party line and were disagreeing with the govrnment's stance on some things. Obviously their consciences wouldn't allow them to go along with what they know to be not only lies but also potentially dangerous for the public.
All the questions that are asked in the updates are vetted before they go on air. They are not surprise questions and the ministers and their advisers have their answers ready.
The shops are opening here in England tomorrow, soon it will be pubs and restuarants and life will be getting back to 'normal' - well our lives won't be! We aren't risking not being alive to see our kids and grandkids. We will be sticking to our own rules!
Then there are all the Black Lives Matter protests and the removal of statues, monuments and street names. I was discussing this with Sue and Tony and Diane yesterday. There are so many so called philanthropists who have been immortalised because of the 'good' they did for their communities while their back stories haven't been told. Their wealth was made from the atrocities of the slave trade, colonialism, the blatant abuse of human beings. I was worried about the history and the truth being lost but now I've heard that these monuments will be put in museums where the real stories will be told. There will be more to come out of this.
I think we are on the brink of a revolution!
Anyway, that's my Blip (and rant!) done early for a change and now I'll get back to cutting squares.
Stay well and safe. Shop on line! ;-D
