Stark

They've pollarded the Plane trees in #Toots. They look hurt, naked and rather sad. I know that come the first spurt of Spring these brutally lopped branches will burst into life again and be healthier and bushier but at the moment they remind me of traumatised machete victims of some ghastly civil war in a Central African republic. Their starkness, though, does have a kind of beauty and as I took this photograph standing very close to the trunk, looking straight up, I'd swear they began to sway and shiver in the cold February air.
