The Pin Well
Spent a bit more time today sorting through some old files - the recycling bin is filling up fast, and there's a pile of paper to be burned in MrM's workshop stove. Very therapeutic! And still much more to do!
This evening's walk took us out of Wooler on the Earle road, up through the fields, and down in to the valley, where we passed The Pin Well (aka Maiden Well). A couple of days late for (Inter)National Holy Well Day, but I'm not entirely sure if a well presided over by a fairy can be classed as 'holy'! Magical, certainly, and the valley where the well is situated (extra) is a magical place. It is said that if you leave the fairy an offering of a bent pin, by the end of the year she will grant your wish. No bent pins in the water, just one safety pin and several coins.
We continued up the steep slope to the left of the trees in the extra, walked through the woods to the top of the Common, and back down Wooler on a short section of St Cuthbert's Way. No deer or squirrels this time, just lots of bitey insects in the woods, and billions of bunnies rabbits!
