Mixed Results!!!
Well the results were very mixed from the kiln i fired the other day...see here and when i first opened the kiln i was totally despondent! the 3 plates on the top were not only all wrong in the colours i was expecting, but 2 of them were stuck to the kiln shelf!!! The kiln was too hot to unload before the end of the evening...so i went to bed with a very heavy heart and some worry! had a bit of a struggle sleeping.....but did come up with at least a partial solution if the rest of kiln was bad also!!!
Just to be clear, these tests are for a customer's dinner set order...12 place setting plus many other pieces....almost 80 pieces in all! So the stakes are kinda high!!!
However, when Terry helped me unload the still quite hot kiln this morning...before breakfast...what a man i tell you.....i was somewhat relieved to find 3-4 examples that had worked! The main image here is one of the pieces i was working towards! You can see some of the in not so welcomed results in the extras. There is too much of the beige colour on these, I actually didn't photograph the really awful ones that had turned out almost brown!!! Turns out the specific placement in the kiln really affects this very tricky glaze! So altho i've learned lots so far, i will have to do another kiln with more tests!
Thankfully the pandemic is saving me a bit! The clients live in the US and can't get back up here until the border has been reopened, which might not be till the end of July! Woo Hoo...i have lots of time!
Had another Zoom meeting with them and they loved the direction i am taking and they are not in a hurry!
It amazes me how much one's ego can really mess with your mind eh!!!
