Herbert Hoover

Day 92- Herbert Hoover(1874-1964) president of US from 1929-1933 lived in the ‘White House’ in Walton in Thames in 1902/3. Hoover was a mining engineer and came to England in 1897 when he was taken on by the mining firm Bewick, Moreing & Co. Although he worked mainly abroad in mines in Australia and China his wife found the house in Walton which was interestingly known as the ‘White House’ then! He was based in London until 1916 and made a big contribution to the distribution of food supplies in WW1.
Visited Walton last week... lots of rain today but quick visit to local parks after. Still no cars allowed in Bushy Park... very relaxed for pedestrians and cyclists compared to ‘normal’ rush hour.

- lots of rain so did cleaning indoors
- watched a bit of Royal As it...very strange
- after the rain quick potter round the parks, very busy but still no cars allowed. Missed seeing the red arrows.
