Slow on the uptake?

After close to 45 yrs, anything "catchable" either one of us had, you can guarantee the other also had. 
After a long time it became apparent I hadn't evicted Alice's toothbrush; I therefore started to use it.
A year, or more, later it dawned on me that I wasn't looking at a letter G, it was actually a switch, damthing's battery driven, or something.  Can see NO way in if it ever packs up, but it's still humming away merrily at switch-on.
Like I said - slow on the up-take; OR WOT?
