Little Tern
That's the type of tern, not a reference to its size. This bird is part of the most northerly little tern colony in the UK. It is on the beach along the east side of the Churchill barrier between the islands of Burray and South Ronaldsay. Its a popular beach with dog-walkers and, normally, the RSPB and a local primary school put up a low fence and posters asking that the terns space be respected. Nothing there this year though, due to lockdown. But hopefully most people know now about the nesting and will give it a wide berth. The photo was taken at a distance as the bird hunted along the shallow water a fair bit from the actual colony, from my vantage point in a WWII searchlight emplacement (extra).
