Pensthorpe Re-opens
Today was the first day that Pensthorpe re-opened, only to members for the first week. G and I were there for when it opened with our pre-booked tickets. Boy was it hot!!! It was lovely to have a walk around again and I got to see how the flamingo 'chick' had grown, the other photos are of a banded demoiselle, oystercatchers and oxeye daisies. It was such a shame to miss the chicks this year and most of the wild flowers. They'd prepared well and there was lots of hand sanitiser around. I got my first tank of petrol for over 3 months and also my first punnet of strawberries from Sharrington - the best!!!
Day 101 / Day 93 of Lockdown / Day 24 of Step 2 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 154 to 43,081. Half of US States are seeing a surge in the virus and 3 States (incl New York) are imposing quarantine for people from States with high virus levels. The Imperial College vaccine is being given in the UK to 300 people over 2 doses. This vaccine works in a new way, using synthetic strands of genetic code to mimic the virus. The UK economy may contract by 10%. Stock markets around the World fell today on fears of a 2nd wave of the pandemic. Cruise company Carnival (which owns over 100 vessels over 10 brands including P&O) saw shares fall 9.3% after a ratings agency downgraded its bonds to junk status.
