Dams to Darnley
The hundredth day! It really doesn't' feel like that and most days, in between the days of lassitude, I can see lots of upsides to all of this. Today was a great day. After lunch I headed out equipped for wet weather walking to explore the Dams to Darnley trail. This new country park, a joint effort between Glasgow City Council and East Ren is work in progress. I walked around the southern side of Balgray Reservoir, the path does not circumvent the reservoir, and then across the very busy Aurs Road into the path towards Ryatlinn reservoir, where this blip was taken, and then onto Waulkmill reservoir . I walked down the glen as far as the old mill house and on my way back up found the waterfall, and the remains of mill buildings that looked remarkably like dungeons.
Not much on the bird watching front, several mergansers and the usual mallards, and on the island in the middle of Balgray a very large black/brown bird flapping its wings in the sunshine (it didn't rain and the weather just got better and better). I am not sure what it was, conceivably it could have been anything from a large shag to an albatross of colour.
Returned via M&S and indulged in buying two lots of chocolate orange ice cream lollies - for the weekends, obviously.
And not least for today - as of 11pm on 30 June, the moment at which Britain lost the ability to seek an extension of the Brexit transition period. Unless we reach a new free trade agreement with the European Union in the next six months, we will be crashing out of the EU with no deal on 31 December. (Guardian)
