Dryas octopetala

Today's the day ……………………… for a repeat performance

I know I keep going back to this little alpine plant - but I find it absolutely fascinating at all stages of its growth.

The flower starts off looking like this - back in May.  This is the last stage of the mountain avens  before it disappears.  Each one of those wispy feathers has a seed attached and when the wind blows hard - they will fly away, hopefully to somewhere where the conditions will be right for a new plant to grow ...............….….
