Corners of Lichfield 2

Our weather today !!! I went for a swim this morning and swam in the warm outdoor pool beneath a clear blue and sparkling sky. Biting wind and temperature well below zero but it was lovely. I went in for a shower (and a chat with my friends) and came out to find the car under a layer of snow and in the middle of a blizzard. The snow's gone now but it still has that wintry feel.

Because I hadn't been able to call for petrol because of the snowstorm, I decided to go at lunchtime, when it was all quieter. Just beyond the petrol station, they've been working on restoring part of the canal. So I went for a nose.

It is true to say that they haven't really got very far.
work in progress

They do hope to open the Lichfield- Hatherton Canal eventually, to complete some of the links to the north of Birmingham. Canal boat holidays and sailing is a popular pastime and this would help complete some of the routes and restore it to its previous glories of the Industrial Revolution.

When you are next extravagant enough to travel on the M6 Toll, have a look for the Aquaduct near Brownhills that is just perched over the road, going nowhere, with no connection to either side. The Trust persuaded the roadbuilders to construct it, in readiness for the full opening of the canal network....
