Heat from the ground up !

A day of changeable weather but we did manage a bright , dry walk of our favourite, local route - Mouse Gate .
Over the last few months we watched the owner of this field dig a spiral of trenches about 1m deep . We assumed it was to drain the land and watched with interest, walking past most days during  that long ago heatwave ! Being curious creatures we kept trying to catch the attention of the landowner, but to no avail .
Sometime later we got chatting to one of the near neighbours who explained that it wasn't for drainage but for pumping heat from the ground ( ground source Heat pump - I think ). He explained that he is also heating his own house in a similar way .  It’s encouraging to come across people who are willing to try out different , more sustainable ways of heating their homes.
Feeling quite emotional this evening , we have been quite lucky so far during lockdown but are now in the horrid position of having to choose between our children.  We will be looking after Arthur as his mum and dad are both working , still mainly from home.
The other grandparents are understandably upset because they would also like more contact but are both working in hospitals. Forming  a bubble with one child means excluding the other two . We are still able to see the family in Chesterfield, at a distance but not cuddle  our grand daughter.  Our youngest son , who is working In London asked how we felt about him coming home next week , by train . After a much thought and chatting we decided that at the moment it wouldn’t work because of our bubble with Arthur and family . He was really sweet and loving about it but Its so upsetting . I’m sure we will work out something in the future but the thought of having him home and under our roof for a week was such a lovely prospect .
I know it’s hard for many  families in so many ways and I’m not having a pity party but as this journal is my account of lockdown I needed to include it.
Of course there is a whole understorey of detail and emotion to go with it but this will be enough to prompt my memory when I look back at it in years to come.
