The Lodge at Giffard's Cross
A really windy day. We decided on a woodland walk along the avenue at Chillington and through the cutting for the Shropshire Union Canal near Brewood. In the time between walking up and coming back along the avenue a branch of a tree had fallen, partly blocking the track. Thankfully, it was relatively calm within the belt of trees, though a short section of the walk along the Staffordshire Way was pretty blowy.
There has been quite a lot of work to thin out the belt of trees along the avenue in recent months.
After more than 3100 blips when you revisit an area you try not to replicate a previous entry. I don't think I've ever posted an image of the lodge before. If you look to the left of the path up to the front door you might just be able to spot the cross in amongst the plants. Giffard is the family name of those still living at Chillington Hall.
We went out for the 72nd anniversary celebrations for the NHS at 5 pm, though, at least in my opinion, it didn't quite have the same feel as this that took place on a Thursday evening over 10 weeks in the spring.
Day Miles: 4.5 miles. Total Miles: 856.0 miles
