Both sides...

...of the rainbow! The other side is in the extra.

The wind was supposed to die down a little this afternoon, and the forecast was for sunshine and showers. So we set off for a drive mid-afternoon, intending to go for a short walk and have a picnic along the way. The wind did lessen somewhat, but we drove through some truly atrocious weather, though it did make for some spectacularly black skies and some wonderful rainbows!

MrM drove us in a southwesterly direction with no set destination in mind, and we ended up going quite some distance (but not nearly as far as a certain trip to Barnard Castle!), the first real outing in the car since mid-March. We ate our picnic in the car whilst watching torrential rain bouncing off Kielder Water, and decided against walking anywhere as we didn't have heavy-duty waterproofs with us. Home through some fabulous countryside and some places we'd never been to before, including Bewcastle - we'll return one day for a proper look round.
