Ziggy's 1st Garden Party
This is Ziggy who welcomed myself and A to his 1st garden catch up since lockdown as organised by his 'people' G & M. He settled down in the spare his chair in the sun and listened intently to the local goings on before finding us way too boring and retiring inside. He probably found it quite rude that his guests hadn't bought him a gift, no manners!
So good to see the Venus Williams vs Lindsay Davenport Wimbledon final of 2005 being selected by the BBC as the best ladies final of the open era. Venus won a long, intense and hard fought final 9-7 in the final set in a match lasting 2hrs 45 mins, the longest ladies final in history. I think Venus' achievements at Wimbledon have been forgotten given the dominance of Serena since, but Venus won 5 singles and 6 doubles championships. She also won Olympics singles Gold, 3 doubles Golds, 2 other Grand Slam singles, 8 Grand Slam doubles and 2 Grand Slam mixed doubles as well as being ranked No.1 in both singles and doubles.
Day 118 / Full Day 110 of Lockdown / Day 8 of Step 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 148 to 44,798. New daily cases up by 820 which is higher than the c550 level it has been running at. New cases in the US went up by over 30,000 and worryingly in India by over 27,000. Leicester is placed on Belgium's 'red-zone' list and visitors from there will have to go into a 2 week mandatory quarantine. A report warns that between £1.3bn & £7.9bn could be stolen by fraudsters through the financial rescue schemes with HMRC already receiving 1,868 claims of furlough fraud by the end of May.
